Description: As the married couple Burton and Vicky Stanton is traveling nearby Gatlin, Nebraska in order to celebrate their second honeymoon, their adventure takes an unexpected turn when they encounter a cult of murderous children, willing to kill everyone older than 19-years old and worshipping He Who Walks Behind The Rows.
Character:
Burton Stanton, main protagonist in Children of the Corn, is a Vietnam veteran, married to the medical doctor Vicky.
Their story takes place in April 1975, when the unhappy couple drives around a back road in Gatlin and accidentally runs over a young boy named Joseph, who stumbles in front of their car out of nowhere.
Burt soon rushes to the child and actually realizes, that the car hasn't wounded the boy, but his throat has been cut.
In search for aid, the couple reaches Gatlin and gets involved in the cult of He Who Walks Behind The Rows.
The worshippers actually are all under 19-years old, as they believe that adults bring a terrible plague and everyone turning 19 must be sacrificed to He Who Walks Behind The Rows.
In Gatlin the couple gets attacked by the cult - Vicky ends up getting killed and Burt gets heavily wounded at his arms, but manages to flee into the corn field.
The same night, due to the bloodloss he starts to have visions of Vietnam and while wandering around aimlessly gets attacked by the plant life.
Finally Burt has to face He Who Walks Behind The Rows, who disembowls him and later on rips his eyes out in a ritual sacrifice, turning Burt into a ghostly scarecrow.
